Hi, I’m John Drury. I help professional business leaders achieve what’s important without losing what’s essential.
I want to talk to you about priorities. When you’re busy, it’s difficult to get priorities right especially across your whole life.
Do you stay back at work and finish that urgent project that’s got to be done or do you get to your child’s special awards ceremony?
Do you take that call from the important client who you’ve been waiting for or do you finish that conversation with your partner?
It’s challenging. How do you set priorities that work for you and for the people in your world?
If you try to respond to every demand and keep everybody happy all the time, it’s just a recipe for disaster and you know that.
So how do we do this? I think one of the things that we’ve all got to learn to do is take some time to think. Thinking time is something that’s undervalued by many people, timeout to really think through who it is you value and what it is you value. What are your values in fact?
And then to become good at communicating and negotiating based on your values not based on what seems urgent to everybody else. And then it’s vital that you take this time regularly because in the hustle and bustle of life, we can end up missing it and making poor decisions and poor judgments and forgetting what we really value sometimes.
So what are you doing regularly to invest in yourself so you have the clarity of mind that you need and the energy that you need to make your life work well?
