The Christmas carol ‘O Holy Night’ is one you will probably hear this Christmas.

One of the lyrics in the first verse with reference to the birth of Jesus, says, “A thrill of hope, a weary world rejoices”.

If you read the story of that first Christmas (Mathhew 1:18 – 2:12Luke 2: 1- 40) you will see that the birth of Jesus was viewed as a new source of hope for a weary world.

As we close out 2023, I am observing a collective weariness that is a lingering effect of the uncertainty and stress we all endured through the Covid period (2020-2022).

We live in a weary world in need of hope. The trouble is we have become cynical and mistrusting. We see the world as complex and many resist the idea of a childlike faith in God. Not childish, but childlike – that ability to simply trust.

The older I get, the more I value the gift of simplicity. I find that simplicity through my faith in Jesus. He came into this world that first Christmas. His life, death, and resurrection were so impacting the calendars of the world revolve around him. His impact is ongoing into the 21st century. Trusting Jesus is the most important source of hope I have in my life. He enables me to serve the people in my world every day.

My prayer for you this Christmas is that you would read the Christmas story (click links above). His birth happened. There is an abundantly more evidence for the facts of Jesus life than for any other historical figure from the ancient world. Through Jesus, (I believe) God broke into human history to let all of humanity know of his love and forgiveness. That is why it is called ‘Good News” (Gospel literally means ‘Good News’ in Greek). Jesus brought hope for all people who will put their trust in him. He is the light of the world.

May you and your family be granted the gift of trusting (childlike) faith as you reflect on Jesus this Christmas.

And may you find refreshing to break through any lingering lethargy so you can find new hope and strength as we enter 2024.

With love and best wishes from my family to yours this Christmas

Warm Regards
